HOW TO BUILD CUSTOMER PROFILES THAT DESIGNERS CAN ACTUALLY USE PRESENTED BY SVC

Lower Level 3

There once was a time when designers used to take their best guesses at who they were designing for and what they needed at each stage of the game. The result was strategies and messaging that often missed the mark, badly. Now, fortunately, the art and science of creating customer personas (instead of relying solely on lifeless demographic data) has come a long way. Selina will teach you how to bring customer segments to life so that designers can better communicate with their audience.

OPTIMIZATION VERSUS TRANSFORMATION: KICKSTART YOUR DIGITAL STRATEGY WITH A “DIGITAL STORM”

Level 3 Tahoma 5

Sponsored By West Monroe Partners

Living in a digital world may come naturally for tech companies, but for companies in banking, healthcare, and insurance, building a strategy for a digital world – one that balances the human nature of a brand with a drive towards automation – is more systemic. Focusing digital as an enabler of your business strategy (not as a separate one), and starting with optimization versus transformation, the seeds the cultural and process shifts begin to prepare you for a digital world.

This workshop, led by Doug Marshall, SVP Retail Banking for BECU, and Kyle Hutchins, senior director of the digital practice at West Monroe Partners, will walk through how BECU used a process called a “digital storm” to build digital capabilities that improve front-line employee effectiveness and satisfaction. Attendees will understand how to apply this lightweight approach to develop clarity around a digital initiative, and create a business case, roadmap, and plan for execution.

HOW TO ENGAGE UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES EFFECTIVELY

Level 2 Chelan 5

While efforts to cultivate diversity and inclusion are now required in almost every public sphere, in practice the project is easier said than done. Common issues that arise: cultural biases, lack of relevance, poor communication, limited engagement, and so on. Failing to account for even one of these issues can undermine the entire effort. This workshop will discuss some common strategies for engaging successfully with a diverse community seeking to accomplish goals of inclusivity in a measurable way. Participants will also break out into groups to conduct a few exercises of relevance for an added hands-on, interactive learning experience.

The workshop is lead by Lee Ngo and the Greater Foundation core team, who regularly practice and iterate these exercises as part of its continuing mission to provide underserved communities with opportunities in technology and entrepreneurship.

KEEPING PACE IN A DIGITAL WORLD: WHAT WE CAN LEARN FROM THE TECH GIANTS

Level 3 Tahoma 5

Sponsored By West Monroe Partners

Your company doesn’t need a digital strategy: it needs a strategy for a digital world. It’s a small nuance, but a big difference in terms of approach. The digital world is ever-changing and all-encompassing, and a strategy built for a digital world requires more than a better channel experience or the latest technology updates. It requires significant cultural shift and business model change that allows for velocity of agile teams, effortless operations, and data capabilities at scale. That’s a lot, we know. But it doesn’t have to be scary. There are a few key things any company can borrow from the technologically advanced to be a little more like them.

This workshop, led by Torben Nielsen, VP of innovation and strategic investments at Premera Blue Cross and Rick Garber, senior manager in  West Monroe Partners’ digital practice, will explore how Premera is shifting to become a capability-led, products-driven organization, much like a tech company—the “products” in this case being differentiated, market-leading, technology-enabled member experiences. This master class will remove the mystery behind what it means to be a product-driven company in order to unlock new levels of efficiency, agility and go-to-market velocity, no matter what kind of business you are in.
