Seattle Interactive Conference Sets 2012 Agenda, Adds Tech Legend David Bunnell, Actor Tom Skerritt

Seattle Interactive Conference Sets 2012 Agenda, Adds Technology Legend David Bunnell, Actor Tom Skerritt

SEATTLE--Organizers of the Seattle Interactive Conference today announced that technology media pioneer David Bunnell, (creator of PC Magazine, PC World and Macworld magazines, developer of Microsoft’s first logo) as well as Hollywood icon Tom Skerritt (Top Gun, A River Runs Through It, Picket Fences), have joined the agenda for SIC 2012, set for October 29-30 at The Conference Center at The Washington State Convention Center. SIC 2012 organizers have posted a regularly updated agenda at (www.seattleinteractive.com/agenda).

“We have developed an agenda that provides a of mix of iconic companies and personalities with newer, up-and-coming organizations and individuals who stand to play a leading role in what all of us will be experiencing and talking about for years to come.”

Bunnell launched Personal Computing magazine in 1977: In exchange for articles written by his friends Bill Gates and Paul Allen, Bunnell worked on several Microsoft projects, including the design of the company’s original logo. In 1981, he started PC Magazine in the spare bedroom of his house in San Francisco. Following PC Magazine, he created PC World, and in 1984, working in secret with Steve Jobs, he published Macworld on the very day the Macintosh was introduced. He has since developed and run several other media properties and, most recently, virtual social worlds. Bunnell will deliver a standalone presentation, “From Type Slugs to Tweets (and many stops in-between).” He also will appear in a panel discussion, “Changing the Game of News,” featuring print, online, and broadcast journalists exploring the massive transformations taking place in the world of journalism and broader information sharing.

Meanwhile, Skerritt will be featured in “Has Video Killed the Television Star?”, joining Viacom Digital Entertainment EVP of Digital Media Erik Flannigan, Indieflix CEO Skilla Andreen and Seattle International Film Festival associate director Carl Spence in discussing the fundamental changes affecting how video is produced, distributed, and consumed. Bunnell and Skerritt are the latest additions to an agenda that mixes leaders from established giants such as AOL, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and Starbucks with scores of earlier-stage companies and entrepreneurs—all of whom are defining the technology and media landscapes of tomorrow. Comedian John Hodgman (The Daily Show, Bored to Death – and who memorably played “The PC” in Apple’s popular “Get a Mac” TV ads) will join a panel hosted by Seattle’s own John Roderick; meanwhile, new media visionary Jason Silva and legendary rock-and-roll guitarist and social activist Wayne Kramer are among the event’s many other notable personalities.

Panels and presentations dedicated to the tracks of “Develop,” “Design,” and “Digital” will cover the very latest developments in specific areas such as Big Data, Social Enterprise/Collaboration, Search Engine Optimization, Digital Subscription Services, Mobile Content and Advertising, Social Media Management, Digital Music, Digital Engineering and Online Technology, Mobile Search, and dozens of other topics.

“SIC 2012 provides a rare opportunity for attendees to interact directly with some of the online technology and digital entertainment sectors’ most influential personalities and companies,” said Brian Rauschenbach, Seattle Interactive Conference founder and curator. “We have developed an agenda that provides a of mix of iconic companies and personalities with newer, up-and-coming organizations and individuals who stand to play a leading role in what all of us will be experiencing and talking about for years to come.”

To accompany a packed two days of programming and presentations, SIC 2012 has a full slate of after-hours networking, entertainment, and social events.
